IAS Prelims exam comprises two exams, General Studies I and CSAT (General Studies Paper-II). It indicates that the Prelims cutoff will depend on your performance in the General Studies Paper. While the CSAT is a qualifying exam, your selection for UPSC Mains depends on your performance on the General Studies test.

UPSC Mains 2022

There are two papers in the IAS Mains Exam: qualifying and merit-ranking. Paper A and Paper B, qualifying in nature, are the Language and English papers, respectively. The grades you get on these papers will not be included in the grades that determine your rank.

UPSC Civil Services 2022 Important Instructions

  • The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination Exam II will be a qualifying paper with a minimum qualifying grade of 33%. Multiple choice, objective questions are expected.
  • The applicant must sit in both Papers of the Civil Services Prelims 2022 Examination for assessment. Also, if a candidate does not present in both Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination papers, they would be disqualified.
  • The number of applicants accepted to the Civil Services (Main) Examination will be around twelve to thirteen times more than the number of vacancies filled via this Examination in the year.
  • Only those candidates who declared qualified in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2022 by the Commission will be eligible to take the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2022.
  • The Commission will compile a list of eligible candidates for the Civil Services (Main) Examination
  • Negative marking will apply to erroneous responses, as here below:
  • (i) There is a possible answer for each question. For each question, the candidate provided an incorrect answer; one-third (33.3%) of the marks decreased as a penalty for each question to which the candidate provided a wrong answer.
  • (ii) If a candidate offers more than one response, it will count as a lousy answer, even if one of the answers is accurate, and the same penalty will apply as in the previous question.
  • (iii) There will be no penalty if a question is left blank, i.e., the candidate will not respond.
